JOHN DOYLE, Artistic Director Mr. Doyle joined CSC in 2013 as the company’s Associate Director. For CSC, he has directed the highly acclaimed productions of Stephen Sondheim’s Passion (2013, Drama Desk Nomination, Outstanding Director of a Musical) and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Allegro (2014, Drama League Nomination, Best Revival of a Musical). In the UK, Mr. Doyle has been Artistic Director of four regional theaters - The Worcester Swan; The Cheltenham Everyman; The Liverpool Everyman; The York Theatre Royal; and was also Associate Director of the Watermill Theatre, Newbury. During these residencies, he directed numerous productions of new and classic works. Notable credits include: Female Parts, Sweeney Todd, Gondoliers, Mack and Mabel (West End), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre), Oklahoma! (Chichester), Amadeus (Wilton’s Music Hall), The Millenium Cylce of Mystery Plays (London) Carmen, Fiddler on the Roof (Watermill), The War of the Roses, The Madness of George III (York), The White Devil, Othello, Candide (Liverpool). John is co- author of “Shakespeare For Dummies”.
BRIAN KULICK, Consulting Artistic Director After thirteen years as Artistic Director of Classic Stage Company, Mr. Kulick adopts a new role as Consulting Artistic Director. Recent productions for CSC include Brecht’s Mother Courage and her Children, Lessing's Nathan the Wise with F. Murray Abraham, Shakespeare’s The Tempest with Mandy Patinkin, Ostrovsky's The Forest with Dianne Wiest, and Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Richard III with Michael Cumpsty. He commissioned and co-directed poet Anne Carson's award-winning AN Oresteia, which was comprised of her translations of Aeschylus' Agamemnon, Sophocles' Electra and Euripides' Orestes. From 1996-2001, Mr. Kulick was an Artistic Associate at The Public Theater, where he directed Twelfth Night, The Winter's Tale and Timon of Athens at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, and also A Dybbuk, Pericles, and Kit Marlowe at The Public's downtown home. Prior to this, Mr. Kulick was the Associate Artistic Director of Trinity Repertory Company where he directed Romeo and Juliet, The Illusion, and Don Quixote. He has directed the premieres of works by Nilo Cruz, Charles Mee, Tony Kushner, Han Ong, and Kathleen Tolan. His work has also been seen at New York Theatre Workshop, Playwrights Horizons, The Mark Taper Forum, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, The Magic Theatre, ACT Theatre (Seattle), and The McCarter Theatre. His work in opera/music theater includes Carmen, Pelleas and Melisanda, A Soldier's Tale, The Guilty Mother, and The Anatole Cycle (all for Long Beach Opera). He has also served as the Creative Director of The Shakespeare Society and is currently on the faculty of Columbia's School of the Arts, where he teaches directing with Anne Bogart.
